Random

It's kind of weird, all my life, I've been dreaming about doing communication, media and video-based work, but it didn't even occur to me to consider studying it. Even weird because I enjoy most projects and assignments that involve video-work. So, when I found out that they offered Video Production as a subject, I literally went nuts! No use crying over it, it's just one subject (easy to say, but the calling and temptation for it is intense...). Anyway, to make up for the fact I'm not taking the subject, plus the fact that I love making videos anyway, I finally got myself this:

Now the question arises: What am I gonna shoot with this vid-cam? Maybe I'll do a vlog thing, or do some comedies, or even document the recording of my songs, or heck, even make my own music video!

Thing is, I have my midterms to contend with before I can start going trigger-happy!

Admin's Got Humor and Wits!

Whenever I have no idea what to do when I'm walking around campus or if I happen to be early to class or a meeting, I usually read whatever posters and notices that are around, like the crazy motorcycle ad I posted earlier. The campus seems to have a lot of these funny posters. However, I found one that is truly funny, not because of any error, but because it actually HAS humor and is kind of witty too! Have a look at this:

In case it isn't clear upon zooming in (click on the image to zoom), here's what's written: (I'm not typing out everything, I'm just typing out the parts that I find humorous)

  • Step 5: How long does it take for the smart card to be ready?
Under terms and conditions: 5 minutes or days. Huhu...
  • Muamalat Bank Number: It's a secret...
  • Problem with the ATM card: Don't disturb us. Go ask Muamalat.
  • Class attendance: Your lecturers know what you did last class... hihihi.
  • THANK YOU!!!
Please don't come again! Or you have to pay penalty for losing your card again, again, and again.

It's nice to know the admin guys want to have some fun, too! It's a breath of fresh air after seeing too many error-laden posters!

Sneak Peek...

Not the final version, but this is pretty much how the cover is going to look like. Samples and tracklisting will be up later. I know that it's taken so long, but it's finally nearing completion! I hope to release it around June or July. I hope I can, considering I've to juggle the production and recording of this project and my academics!

Random Thoughts...

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

This is a pretty common question, often poised to kids in school. Among the typical answers would be:

Kid A: "A doctor!"

Kid B: "A lawyer!"

Kid C: "An architect!"

Kid D: "A dancer!"

Kids A, B, and C: "HUH!?"

Ok, Kid D's answer isn't exactly the typical answer you'd hear from a kid when you ask him what he wants to be!

Anyway, this is a sort-of example of how society's norms are. People are expected to do something that is 'typical'. When somebody doesn't conform to that, you get lashed out with names! But hey, at that age, you don't exactly know what you want to be. Some may need time to discover where their talents lie and what exactly interests them. Some on the other hand, have an aptitude for certain things. I don't think it's right to put down someone who has an ambition for something, no matter how whacked out it is! With support and patience, anything can be done!

As for me, my ambitions have changed over the years. I actually wanted to be a traveling chef! There were times where I kind of had to bow down to both peer pressure and society's pressures, so I kind of thought I'd be a lawyer or dentist one day. And now, here I am, wanting to pursue a communication-based career and maybe a bit of media stuff (music, videography, etc).

Over the years, I've made mistakes regarding choices, here and there. Everyone makes mistakes, really. Nobody's perfect. But it's what you learn from your mistakes that makes you a better person. Some people like to look down on the mistakes we do. But mistakes just give us more opportunities to improve. It's never to late to turn around and make a change.

Something Free You Wouldn't Want...

Everybody would want something that's free. That's why they're used to attract people to buy products. The most famous example would be 'buy 1, free 1', and some products may come with free gifts and much more. But well, have a look at this:

Ok, it's not a motorcycle for free, it's basically somebody wanting to sell a motorcycle. Oh, and the colour is pretty funky, never knew they had vehicles in "Merah Cili" (Chili Red), that must be pretty... spicy! But the next line reads:

FREE ACCIDENT (TIPTOP CONDITION)

Whoa, they're giving us FREE ACCIDENTS, in TIPTOP CONDITION?! 0_0

Wrong word order can surely change the meaning a lot. Accident free and free accident... I'd go with the former!

Thank God I don't even know how to ride a bicycle! (For the record, I can drive and am licensed)

You Know, It's Getting Pretty Hot...

REALLY HOT.

No, that doesn't justify how hot it is. It's really DAMN HOT. So hot, that our current temperature is as hot as the place shown in the picture around 10 years ago:

If a desert island-like heat doesn't compare, then other ways to describe the excruciating heat would be a heavenly sauna like being in an oven, slowly-cooked to be served as a delicious main meal!

Ok, I think that's a bit too far!

But seriously, it's really hot! Jogging in the morning used to be such an exciting activity, but now even the morning sun BURNS! Ok, complaining or whining about the heat wouldn't do any good. What I really want to post is about the possible causes of this insanely ridiculous heat we're all going through!

A little bit of reading shows that air-conditioners release a by-product called CFC (chlorofluorocarbons). Thing is, once upon a time, air-conditioning wasn't exactly needed. In my opinion, our country simply wasn't hot enough to warrant using ridiculous amounts of air-conditioning. Once upon a time, air-conditioning used to be stuff of the elites. As time progressed, we see shopping malls, offices, and even schools over-loaded with air-conditioners. More air-conditioners = more CFC. CFC actually makes the ozone (a protective layer that prevents UV rays and the like) thinner. So over the years, it got thinner, and that kind of explains why it's so hot!

Then, there's the fact that we have SO MANY constructions going on! Ok, so we do need them for 'development', some may say. But I kind of disagree with quite a number of 'developments' out there. Too often, I feel a certain location is already crammed up to the max, and contractors actually build ANOTHER FLIPPING BUILDING! And of all the places, by the highway or the side of a main road. As if traffic jams here aren't bad enough already! If they really want to 'develop' things, can't they make more parking spaces? And not only that, contractors seem to have a knack for unnecessarily cutting trees down to 'make streets look neater' because 'they look messy'. Heck, this even happened around my hostel and housing area! God knows how old those trees are, and all of a sudden, they just get yanked out of the ground to 'clean things up'. Amazing! What do trees have to do with the heat? First and foremost, they provide shelter from the heat, plus they absorb sunlight, too. But now, walking around without trees, especially with the current temperature, is like bringing a piece of well-baked lasagna to your destination, except that the lasagna didn't come from any restaurant; the lasagna is YOU.

And last but not least, the increase of usage of vehicles. Yes, we have more people driving cars, that can't be avoided due to the increasing population. But there are unnecessary usages of cars too. A lot of kids these days are getting cars at pretty young ages, and honestly, I don't think kids need them. They don't even have a job! And driving to a place that is within walking distance? The gas emission from the vehicle is just going to contribute to the heat! I'm not saying this because I'm jealous of people who own cars, though. I could afford one, but I opt not to have a car. I could walk, and burn calories on the way to class. In case I need to go anywhere far, I'd carpool or take public transportation. I'd only get a car when I'm married and fully settled down! Unfortunately, our current generation of students prefer to indirectly burn everyone via adding to the increasing gas emissions worldwide.

I think people should do something about the heat. Much better than debating about selfish needs and all that, don't you think?

Work In Progress

Update No. 1: New layout is finally under construction, after quite some time talking about it. Do bear with this plain layout while I'm coding and Photoshop-ing the new one!

Update No. 2: Due to the extra time this short semester has afforded me, I'm considering taking up either a language class or some sort of skill class outside, or maybe even do some freelance work, not only to fill my free time, but also so that my brain moves a bit! It feels a bit rusty, so it needs some oil, and activities seem to rev things up...

Update No. 3: Malaysia is getting hotter and hotter, and the excruciating heat shows no sign of cooling down even a bit.

Update No. 4: Totally random, I know, but we need more clean cafes and stalls! I wonder why nobody seems to bother about eating at places that aren't exactly... clean...

Update No. 5: I think I'll save the other updates for the next post. And that will be tomorrow!

The New (and Short) Sem

I'm back in campus for the short semester, and it surely is short. It's just a month and a half long! Thankfully, the workload is minimal, though explaining to others what exactly is a short semester is to others is a bit tough, seeing that the system doesn't seem to be used by other universities around here. Anyway, to put it short, taking a short semester is equivalent to giving up a lovely 3-month break in exchange for a one and half month long honeymoon with books! intense head-to-desk and sleeping-with-books sessions. Ok, it's not that bad really. It's just one or two subjects a week, and the immense amount of free time available leaves me wondering what to do! I can't just sleep all day long, but I can't just study all day long either... wait, I'm at a university; I'm here to STUDY, so I can't exactly say "I can't just study all day long either..."! But, I hope you get my point! I have to do SOMETHING! Maybe I should enroll in some sort of class to learn something new, or re-continue studying music... Or perhaps I should be seeking for bandmates! There's a lot to be done...

Now, if only I can figure out what to do with the remaining 21 hours of the day. Ok, 8 hours for sleep, but the rest? Additional sleep? No way. NO WAY!!!
